ACFAS: Higher education at the heart of knowledge societies

Event date

Our paper focuses on the need to undertake research on the disproportionate outmigration of English-speaking Quebec graduates and to correct this problem. This has prompted the creation of a new organization called the Consortium of English-Speaking CEGEPS, Colleges and Universities of Quebec.

Event Details

In this context, the Consortium’s first research project focused on a specific employment sector, namely the Quebec public service. Despite government measures, English-speaking Quebecers continue to be under-represented in this sector.

The first phase of this research project is divided into three parts: 1) the research team conducted a literature review to inventory programs, courses, and internships related to the public service that are currently offered in Quebec’s post-secondary institutions (regardless of language of instruction); 2) interviews were conducted with those responsible for internships in post-secondary institutions (regardless of language of instruction), as well as in the Quebec public service; 3) the question of French language proficiency requirements was also examined in the context of our literature review and interviews.
